Elisabeth Moss Joins Wes Anderson’s ‘The French Dispatch,’ Which Could Arrive This Year

Elisabeth Moss Joins Wes Anderson’s ‘The French Dispatch,’ Which Could Arrive This Year

New Project for Elisabeth “The French Dispatch” which is looking great by the amount of great actors in it.

With a new Wes Anderson film on the horizon, it also means one a grand ensemble also awaits–and even though The French Dispatch wrapped last month on location in France, the cast just keeps getting better. With Timothée Chalamet, Benicio del Toro, Jeffrey Wright, Bill Murray, Frances McDormand, Tilda Swinton, Léa Seydoux, Mathieu Amalric, Owen Wilson, Lois Smith, Willem Dafoe, Bob Balaban, Henry Winkler, Adrien Brody, Kate Winslet, Jason Schwartzman, Christoph Waltz, Griffin Dunne, Denis Ménochet, Vincent Macaigne, Cécile de France, and Rupert Friend all on board, another name has revealed itself.

Elisabeth Moss, who can recently be seen onscreen in one of her best performances, in Alex Ross Perry’s Her Smell, has joined the cast. “I just did a tiny part in a Wes Anderson film, and 100 percent of it was because I wanted to be in a Wes Anderson movie. I’m a tremendous fan,” Moss tells THR. “That’s why you get all those other actors in for small parts in his movies, because they just want to work with him. So, it’s much more about the collaboration than any calculated career move.”

Anderson also recently opened up more about his tenth film, telling Charente Libre that it’s about “an American journalist based in France who creates his own magazine. It is more a portrait of this man, of this journalist who fights to write what he wants to write. It’s not a movie about the freedom of the press, but when you talk about reporters, you also talk about what’s going on in the real world.”

While we expected the film to be a 2020 release, Anderson said, “I feel that it could be ready before the end of the year.” So, fingers crossed post-production goes well this summer and we’ll update when a release date is announced.

Benedict Cumberbatch, Elisabeth Moss to Star in Jane Campion’s New Film

Benedict Cumberbatch, Elisabeth Moss to Star in Jane Campion’s New Film

Benedict Cumberbatch and Elisabeth Moss will star in Jane Campion’s new film, “The Power of the Dog,” an adaptation of the Thomas Savage novel.

Campion will direct from a script she adapted, with See-Saw Films’ in-house sales arm, Cross City Films, launching sales at this month’s Cannes Film Festival. The movie will go into pre-production at the end of the year.

“‘The Power of the Dog’ is a sublime novel that deserves a life on the big screen. I couldn’t stop thinking about the story, it really haunted me. The themes of masculinity, nostalgia and betrayal are an intoxicating mix,” Campion said. “It’s also rare to find a story where the themes, the plot and the characters build tension as they reveal each other and even the end is satisfying and unexpected. It will be the first time I’ve worked with a male lead, which is exciting. Phil is a charismatic and complex character who declares war on his brother’s new wife and her teenage son.”

The book tells the story of wealthy Montana brothers Phil (Cumberbatch) and George Burbank. Phil is brilliant and cruel, while George is fastidious and gentle. Together, they are joint owners of the biggest ranch in their Montana valley. When George secretly marries local widow Rose (Moss), an angry Phil wages a relentless war to destroy her by using her son Peter as a pawn.

The pic is a See-Saw Films and Big Shell Films/Max Films production in association with Brightstar. It originated with producer Roger Frappier of Max Films, who held the rights to the novel. Frappier offered the property to Campion following a meeting at a recent Cannes Film Festival.

Campion then tapped “Cold War” producer Tanya Seghatchian of Brightstar to partner with her to bring the project to life. She also approached her longtime collaborators, producers Emile Sherman and Iain Canning at See-Saw Films, who executive produced her TV series “Top of the Lake,” to drive the financing and physical production. The project has been developed with BBC Films, who are also backing production. BBC Films’ Rose Garnett, See-Saw film COO Simon Gillis and Brightstar’s John Woodward will serve as executive producers.

The production deal was negotiated by Gillis and See-Saw head of business affairs Rebecca Hardman, alongside Kate Richter of HLA Management on behalf of Campion, Stephen Saltzman of Paul Hastings and Peter Meyer of Meyer Management on behalf of Max Films, Nel Malikova on behalf of Hachette Book Group, Elizabeth Savage and Jeremy Gawade of Lee & Thompson on behalf of Brightstar, and Geraldine Atlee on behalf of BBC Films.

Cumberbatch recently starred in the massive Marvel hits “Avengers: Endgame” and “Avengers: Infinity War,” in addition to lending his voice to the title character in “The Grinch.” On the TV side, he starred in HBO’s “Brexit” and also has the Amazon series “Good Omens.” He just finished filming Sam Mendes’ World War I pic “1917” and is also attached to topline the sequel to “Doctor Strange.”

Moss was most recently seen in the horror hit “Us,” which has grossed more than $250 million at the worldwide box office. She’s starring in the rock drama “Her Smell” and also has the crime drama “The Kitchen” bowing later this year. She is also returning for the third season of the Emmy-winning “The Handmaid’s Tale,” which premieres this summer, and also signed on to star in “The Invisible Man” reboot.

Campion won the Academy Award for screenplay for “The Piano.” She became the first, and to date only, female director to be awarded the Cannes Film Festival’s Palme d’Or. Her limited series “Top of the Lake” won the 2013 Emmy for cinematography for a miniseries or movie, as well as the 2014 Golden Globe for an actress in a miniseries or movie for Moss. Campion created, co-wrote and directed the follow-up, “Top of the Lake: China Girl,” which was one of the first TV series ever to be included in the Cannes Film Festival’s official selection.

Campion is repped by HLA Management in Australia. Cumberbatch is repped by UTA in the U.S. and Conway van Gelder Grant in the U.K. Moss is repped by WME, Ribisi Entertainment Group, Viewpoint and Hansen Jacobson Teller Hoberman in the U.S., and Independent Talent Group in the U.K.

Elisabeth Moss & Susan Sarandon To Star In Women’s Rights Drama ‘Call Jane’

Elisabeth Moss & Susan Sarandon To Star In Women’s Rights Drama ‘Call Jane’

New Project for Elisabeth “Call Jane”

The Handmaid’s Tale star Elisabeth Moss and Oscar-winner Susan Sarandon (Dead Man Walking) will star in women’s rights drama Call Jane for Tallulah director Sian Heder and producer Robbie Brenner (Dallas Buyers Club) under her Unburdened Entertainment banner. The Blacklist script comes from Hayley Schore & Roshan Sethi with Moss also set to produce.

Protagonist will launch sales at the EFM on the project about Joy (Moss), a traditional 60’s American housewife, who is desperate for a child. When she receives news of her pregnancy, complications mean that what should have been a joyous moment is instead an imminent threat to her life. She has nowhere to turn until she stumbles upon the Janes, an underground abortion movement led by Virginia (Sarandon).

The film is currently in pre-production and, along with Moss and Brenner, Kevin McKeon and David Wulf are producing. Michelle Mason Vella and the script’s writers, Hayley Schore & Roshan Sethi, will serve as executive producers. Endeavor Content and ICM Partners will handle North America.

“As a producer, I strive to tell stories that are meaningful and provocative, but also to help put a mirror up to our world in order to move and inspire the audience with honesty and relatability”, said Brenner. “As a woman and a mother of two girls, I feel a responsibility with Call Jane to tell the incredible story of these brave women at a time when women’s rights and empowerment hangs in the balance. I have no doubt that Sian will craft a beautiful and important film with our dedicated and amazing cast, Elisabeth and Susan.”

Moss said, “I’m so excited to be bringing this beautiful script to life with Sian and Robbie and to be working with Susan, who I admire tremendously. The Jane Collective is an important and fascinating part of our history, especially for women. We see their story unfold through the eyes of Joy, a complex character who represents many women caught between one period of time and the next. It’s also frighteningly relevant and timely to be telling this story right now and I know, with Sian at the helm, it’s going to be an honest and brave film.”

Gunpowder & Sky to Release HER SMELL Starring Elisabeth Moss

News on Her Smell official release date for theaters, which is set for March 29, 2019.

Becky Something (Elisabeth Moss) is a ’90s punk rock superstar who once filled arenas with her grungy all-female trio Something She. Now she plays smaller venues while grappling with motherhood, exhausted bandmates, nervous record company executives, and a new generation of rising talent eager to usurp her stardom.
